Olympic Games Opening Ceremony

Paris 2024

Auditoire

Overview

For the first time, the Olympic Games opening ceremony was moved beyond the stadium, and into the heart of Paris.

The Challenge

The Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony was fundamentally inspired by France’s enduring purpose as a champion of human dignity and shared values. At a time when the world faces increasing polarization, France’s historical commitment to “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” offered a powerful counter-narrative that could resonate globally.

By bringing the ceremony out of a closed stadium and into the heart of Paris, we transformed these abstract principles into a tangible, accessible experience.

The creative challenge was immense: transform a river into a stage, coordinate logistics across historical monuments, and ensure the ceremony remained spectacular despite unpredictable outdoor conditions.

The Solution

Our strategy acknowledged that the Olympic Games arrive in a time of global fragmentation, where shared values feel increasingly scarce. Drawing on France’s unique heritage as the birthplace of human rights, we designed an experience that reaffirmed these universal principles through beauty, art, and celebration rather than didactic messaging.

By bringing the ceremony into public space, we transformed a traditionally exclusive event into a democratic celebration embodying fraternity. Every element balanced artistic spectacle with France’s distinctive perspective on inclusion, showcasing a society where liberty and equality are not just slogans but lived values expressed through culture.

This authentically French approach resonated deeply with global audiences, generating widespread media coverage. As The Los Angeles Times described it, this was “the most unique opening ceremony in Olympic history”—a genuine celebration of universal values that brought people together across cultural divides in a time of increasing polarization.
